Deeply troubled American Arthur Brennan (Matthew McConaughey) travels to Japan in order to end his own life in Aokigahara, a densely wooded area at the base of Mt. Fuji that has come to be known as the "Suicide Forest." When Arthur meets a Japanese man (Ken Watanabe) who also planned on killing himself, he forms an unexpected bond with the mysterious stranger as they both begin to re-examine their lives.
