Writer/director Robert Altman's Bergmanesque character study is set in a nursing home/rest spa in the Southern California desert, where shy new employee Pinky (Sissy Spacek) is befriended by brash co-worker Millie (Shelley Duvall) and begins to mimic her dress, speech, and behavior. But when Millie's affair with a businessman (Robert Fortier), husband of a pregnant artist (Janice Rule), leads to tragedy, Pinky and Millie find their roles reversing. 124 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtrack: English PCM mono; Subtitles: English (SDH); audio commentary by Altman; photo gallery; TV spots; theatrical trailers; booklet.
