Triple bill of pioneering Russian silent films opens with "Earth," Alexander Dovzhenko's classic drama of a Ukrainian farming village and the changes that a young, pro-collectivization farmer struggles to bring about. Next, the state of Russia before and during the Revolution is seen through the eyes of a peasant who comes to the title city in "The End of St. Petersburg," starring Ivan Chistiakov; followed by the humorous "Chess Fever," a send-up of the International Chess Tournament and how it nearly ruins a young man's marriage. 186 min. total. Soundtrack: music score. Silent with music score.
