Women in Cages (1971) is a stark women-in-prison shocker with a sizzling star turn by Pam Grier as a whip-wielding, lesbian warden named Alabama who enjoys abusing her charges in a gothic torture chamber, "the Playpen." With Judy Brown, Roberta Collins. AKA: "Women's Penitentiary III." When the desperate inmates of an all-female prison rebel against the ruthless warden and her guards, all heck breaks loose, in "The Big Doll House" (1971). Grier (who also sings the theme song), Brown, Collins, and Sid Haig star. And, you'll want to keep the lovely tropical isle in "The Big Bird Cage" (1972) off the cruise list...it's a brutally run work farm for women lorded over by sadistic fey guards. Hit the decks when foxy mercenary Pam Grier arrives to blow the joint wide open. Anitra Ford, Carol Speed, and Haig also star. AKA: "Women's Penitentiary II." 4 1/3 hrs. total on two discs. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English Dolby mono.
