Two stunning film adaptations of Alexandre Bisson's play "La Femme X..." are featured on this double bill. Jacqueline Floriot (Ruth Chatterton) is a former socialite banished from high society and forbidden from seeing her young son after she cheats on her husband. Years later when she finds herself on trial for murder, her defense attorney turns out to be the child she hasn't seen since he was a little boy. The 1929 version of "Madame X" also stars Lewis Stone, Raymond Hackett; Lionel Barrymore directs. AKA: "Absinthe." And, 1937's "Madame X" stars Gladys George as the disgraced former wife of a diplomat, reunited with her son after 20 years when he attempts to clear her of murder charges without knowing who she really is. With Warren William, John Beal, Reginald Owen. 167 min. total on two discs. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono.
