Charles Chaplin's final directorial effort stars Marlon Brando as unhappily married American diplomat Ogden Mears, en route to New York from the Far East on an ocean liner, who encounters the beautiful stowaway Natascha (Sophia Loren), a Russian noble turned dance hall girl. He reluctantly agrees to help conceal her--and finds himself falling for her.
