This Italian effort from director Antonio Pietrangeli, reminiscent of neorealism, stars Simone Signoret as one of four prostitutes trying to go legit. When a new law closes Rome's brothels, the quartet pools their resources to open a café, but they can't get a license. A shady ex-client helps them out, but insists they conduct their former pursuit upstairs while paying him an exorbitant monthly fee. Marcello Mastroianni co-stars. AKA: "Love a la Carte." 118 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: Italian; Subtitles: English; bonus footage; featurette; bonus booklet. In Italian with English subtitles.
