Dangerous To Know (1938)
Ruthless big-town gangster Steve Recka (Akim Tamiroff) wanted to up his standing by courting socialite Margaret Van Kase (Gail Patrick), and was hardly above a frame job on her bond salesman boyfriend Phillip Easton (Harvey Stephens) to get him out of the way. Recka hadn't counted, however, on the will of his resentful mistress Lan Ying (Anna May Wong) to scuttle his schemes. Robert Florey's take on the Edgar Wallace play "On the Spot" co-stars Anthony Quinn, Lloyd Nolan, Hedda Hopper. 70 min. BW/Rtg: NR
King Of Chinatown (1939)
Gifted Chinatown surgeon Mary Ann Ling (Anna May Wong) responded instinctually when local rackets lord Frank Baturin (Akim Tamiroff) was gunned down on her doorstep. As she oversaw the criminal's convalesence and gained his affections, however, she'd find her home the focal point as other mugs looked to fill the power vacuum. Atmospheric crime story also stars Anthony Quinn, J. Carrol Naish, Sidney Toler, Philip Ahn, Richard Denning. 57 min. BW/Rtg: NR
Island Of Lost Men (1939)
Desperate to find her vanished army general father (Richard Loo) and clear him of embezzlement charges, cabaret singer Kim Ling (Anna May Wong) made her way to Malaysia--and to the lair of sleazy entrepreneur Gregory Prin (J. Carrol Naish), who bonds fleeing fugitives as slave labor. Does mysterious worker Chang Tai (Anthony Quinn) know more than he's telling? Riveting re-do of "White Woman" also stars Broderick Crawford, Eric Blore, Ernest Truex, Philip Ahn. 68 min. BW/Rtg: NR
