The Bad News Bears (1976)
Hilarious horsehide hoot follows the Bears, a bottom-of-the-barrel Little League team made up of some of the worst players to ever set foot on a baseball field. The squad is raised from dead last, however, thanks to the arrival of a beer-swilling coach (Walter Matthau), a female pitcher (Tatum O'Neal), and a motorcycle-riding juvenile delinquent (Jackie Earle Haley). With Vic Morrow, Joyce Van Patten, Ben Piazza; scripted by Bill Lancaster (Burt's son). 101 min. C/Rtg: PG
The Bad News Bears In Breaking Training (1977)
William Devane takes over coaching duties in this smash sequel to the popular pipsqueak baseball comedy. While attempting to lead the ragtag squad--including his estranged son Kelly (Jackie Earle Haley)--to victory in the Little League World Series in Houston, Texas, he discovers just how difficult achieving success at the Astrodome will be. With Jimmy Baio, Clifton James. 99 min. C/Rtg: PG
The Bad News Bears Go To Japan (1978)
And baseball--and Japan--will never be the same! Everybody's favorite Little League squad of misfits, led by small-time promoter/hustler-turned-manager Marvin Lazar (Tony Curtis), who sees the Bears as a money-making opportunity, heads to the Land of the Rising Sun, in the third Bears comedy. Co-stars Jackie Earle Haley, Tomisaburo Wakayama, George Wyner, Regis Philbin, and wrestler Antonio Inoki as himself. 102 min. C/Rtg: PG
Bad News Bears (2005)
In director Richard Linklater's ("School of Rock") updating of the classic underdog comedy, Billy Bob Thornton is Morris Buttermaker, a perpetually soused former minor leaguer who winds up coaching a club of Little League outcasts. With the addition of his daughter as a ringer pitcher, can skipper Buttermaker lead his team to victory against a rival squad? With Greg Kinnear, Marcia Gay Harden, Sammi Kane Kraft. 113 min. C/Rtg: PG-13
