Brussels, 1815: At the Duchess of Richmond’s ball, nouveau riche tradesman’s daughter Sophia Trenchard (Emily Reid) got the notice of nobleman’s son Edmund Bellasis (Jeremy Neumark Jones)--to the apprehension of their respective mothers (Tamsin Grieg, Harriet Walter). That night’s repercussions would be felt by both clans a full quarter-century later, in this lush miniseries adapted by Julian Fellowes from his novel. Tom Wilkinson, Philip Glenister, Alice Eve also star. 4 3/4 hrs on two discs. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital 5.1; Subtitles: English (SDH); "making of" featurette.
