These rare short films feature an array of talented African-American performers at their best! "Black and Tan" (1929) tells a tragic story of a struggling jazz musician with the music of Duke Ellington (who also stars) and his Cotton Club Orchestra; Stepin Fetchit might have been depicted as a "Slow Poke" (1932), but few could equal his comedic gifts in this music-filled short; Duke Ellington and his Orchestra perform "Symphony in Black: A Rhapsody of Negro Life" (1935) as onscreen images depict images of everyday life; Cab Calloway's "Hi-De-Ho" (1934) tells an amusing tale of infidelity; and the Oscar-nominated "Jammin' the Blues" (1944) features Lester Young, George "Red" Callender, and Harry Edison. Standard; Soundtrack: English.
