A stodgy, middle-aged professor (Emil Jannings) goes to confront the nightclub chanteuse (Marlene Dietrich) who's been distracting his young charges, only to get caught up in her charms and led down a path to ruination. Josef von Sternberg directs this classic German drama, based on Heinrich Mann's 1905 novel "Professor Unrat," that made Dietrich an overnight sensation and introduced her signature song "Falling in Love Again." Includes both the German-language version with English subtitles and the recently found filmed-in-English version that was shot simultaneously by von Sternberg. 106 min./94 min. Standard; Soundtracks: German Dolby Digital stereo, English Dolby Digital stereo; Subtitles: English; audio commentary; screen test; interview; theatrical trailer; concert footage; photo gallery; biographies; production history. In German with English subtitles/Dubbed in English. Two-disc set.
