Fast And Loose (1930)
Wealthy patriarch Bronson Lenox (Frank Morgan) was stewing because his daughter (Miriam Hopkins, in her feature debut) was dating an auto mechanic (Charles Starret), while his son (Henry Wadsworth) was squiring a chorus girl (Carole Lombard). His efforts to squelch the romances fall apart--as he discovers that the hoi-polloi lovers have more grounding and common sense than his kids. Winifred Harris, Ilka Chase co-star; Preston Sturges go-adapted this take on the Broadway farce "The Best People." 70 min. BW/Rtg: NR
Man Of The World (1931)
While vacationing in Paris with her wealthy uncle (Guy Kibbee), a young American woman (Carole Lombard) is wowed and wooed by a sophisticated writer (William Powell). Turns out that the alleged author’s really an extortionist who preys on the rich and gullible, but is he developing genuine feelings for his new target? First Powell-Lombard pairing co-stars Wynne Gibson, Lawrence Gray. 74 min. BW/Rtg: NR
No Man Of Her Own (1932)
In order to elude detectives, New York gambler Jerry "Babe" Stewart (Clark Gable) takes refuge in a small town upstate where he meets and marries librarian Connie Randall (Carole Lombard). Returning to the Big Apple, Babe reverts to his gambling ways and meets an old flame who threatens to turn him over to the law. Dorothy Mackaill, Grant Mitchell co-star in this snappy farce; Gable and Lombard’s only film together. 82 min. BW/Rtg: NR
