Cary Grant’s ‘30s Paramount tenure is saluted in this six-disc set. "Madame Butterfly" (1932), based on the play which also inspired Puccini’s opera, stars Grant as an American naval officer in Japan who woos and abandons a geisha-in-training (Sylvia Sydney). Cary comes to his girlfriend’s (Nancy Carroll) aid when an ex-flame’s murder leaves her "The Woman Accused" (1933); John Halliday co-stars. Ex-gangster Ace Corbin’s (Grant) past catches up to him on board an offshore "Gambling Ship" (1933); with Glenda Farrell. A switchboard operator (Frances Drake) falls for one of her building’s tenants (Grant) and tries to disconnect him from con artists in "Ladies Should Listen" (1934). And "Enter Madame!" (1935) finds Cary cast as a new husband who fears he’s playing second fiddle to his opera diva wife’s (Elissa Landi) singing career. Also includes "This Is the Night," "Devil and the Deep," "Blonde Venus," "Hot Saturday," "She Done Him Wrong," "I’m No Angel," "The Eagle and the Hawk," "Kiss and Make-Up," "Thirty Day Princess," "The Last Outpost," "Wings in the Dark," "Big Brown Eyes," and "Wedding Present." 22 3/4 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono.
