Car Wash (1976)
Funny and funky farce follows the lives of the eccentric employees and customers gliding through a California car wash on one sunny day. Among the offbeat characters are a money-minded preacher (Richard Pryor), a cab driver (George Carlin) looking for a fare who stiffed him, a man (Professor Irwin Corey) who may be a mad bomber, and more. With Franklyn Ajaye, Antonio Fargas, Bill Duke, Garrett Morris, and The Pointer Sisters; written by Joel Schumacher. 97 min. C/Rtg: PG
Smokey And The Bandit (1977)
In the first film in Hollywood’s fastest series, Burt Reynolds burns rubber as legendary driver Bo "Bandit" Darville, who’s hired by wealthy Texan Big Enos Burdette (Pat McCormick) to transport 400 cases of Coors beer (which was then unavailable for purchase east of the Mississippi) from Texas to Georgia in 28 hours. With partner Snowman (Jerry Reed) in the big rig and Bandit in his Trans Am, the good ole boys race to steer clear of "Smokey," Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason). With Sally Field, Paul Williams. 96 min. C/Rtg: PG
National Lampoon's Animal House (1978)
Director John Landis’ classic campus comedy depicts the "slobs vs. straights" war that rages between two fraternities at the fictional Faber College in 1962. Watch as Delta House misfits Otter (Tim Matheson), Bluto (John Belushi), Boon (Peter Riegert), Pinto (Tom Hulce), and Flounder (Stephen Furst) use food fights, dead horses, toga parties, and a calamitous parade float to battle a rival frat and a crusty dean (John Vernon). Karen Allen, Donald Sutherland also star. 109 min. C/Rtg: R
The Jerk (1979)
Beloved standup comedian and former TV gag writer Steve Martin’s first starring film role was as gullible, dimwitted--but likable--gas station attendant Navin R. Johnson. Follow Navin’s hilarious journey from his humble beginnings in a Southern shanty to wealthy eyeglass innovator and back to poverty. Bernadette Peters and Jackie Mason co-star in this wild collection of pratfalls and sight gags from director Carl Reiner and co-scripter Martin. 94 min. C/Rtg: R
Widescreen; Soundtrack: English.
