Clint Eastwood: The Universal Pictures 7-Movie Collection
Coogan's Bluff (1968)
Star Clint Eastwood and director Don Siegel’s first collaboration effort was this crime drama. Arizona deputy sheriff Walt Coogan (Eastwood) copes with culture shock--not to mention a brutal pool room fight and the impediments brought on by an uncooperative police lieutenant--while in New York City to bring back a fugitive murder suspect. Co-stars Lee J. Cobb, Don Stroud, and Susan Clark. 95 min. C/Rtg: R
Two Mules For Sister Sara (1970)
After rescuing Sister Sara (Shirley MacLaine) from the hands of a gang of bandits in the Mexican desert, American mercenary Hogan (Clint Eastwood) and the suspiciously tough-talking, hard-drinking nun embark on a violence-filled effort to assist Mexican guerrilla fighters in their struggle against French exploiters. Don Siegel directs this rollicking western adventure. 114 min. C/Rtg: PG
Play Misty For Me (1971)
Before "Fatal Attraction," there was this superb suspenser that marked Clint Eastwood’s directorial debut. Eastwood plays Dave Garver, a late-night California DJ who has a romantic fling with devoted listener Evelyn Draper (Jessica Walter). But when Garver attempts to end the affair, the unbalanced Evelyn’s obsession with him takes a dangerous and deadly turn. With Donna Mills, John Larch. 103 min. C/Rtg: R
The Beguiled (1971)
Offbeat, entrancing drama, set near the end of the Civil War, stars Clint Eastwood as wounded Union soldier Corporal John McBurney in Louisiana, who is found by a girl and taken to a remote boarding school for young ladies to recuperate. McBurney’s presence stirs up romantic feelings and jealousies and leads the headmistress (Geraldine Page) to take drastic measures to "protect" her charges. With Elizabeth Hartman, Pamelyn Ferdin; Don Siegel directs. 105 min. C/Rtg: R
Joe Kidd (1972)
Clint Eastwood is in top form as Joe Kidd, a New Mexico rancher/former bounty hunter who becomes caught in the middle of a land war between Hispanic settlers and greedy developers. Reluctantly agreeing to help a wealthy landowner and his henchmen track down a Mexican revolutionary leader, Kidd soon faces the toughest challenge of his life. Gripping western co-stars John Saxon, Robert Duvall, Don Stroud, Stella Garcia; scripted by Elmore Leonard. 88 min. C/Rtg: PG
High Plains Drifter (1973)
In his first self-directed western effort, Clint Eastwood plays a stranger who rides into an impoverished town, whose residents are dreading the imminent return of the three desperadoes who had once laid the place to ruin. The locals turn to the imposing new arrival for help, but will his assistance come with too great a price? Violent and compelling opus co-stars Verna Bloom, Geoffrey Lewis, Billy Curtis. 106 min. C/Rtg: R
The Eiger Sanction (1975)
Spectacular mountain climbing scenes and fast-paced action highlight this rousing adventure. Clint Eastwood (who also directed) is an art professor and ex-government hit man who’s lured out of retirement to "sanction" (eliminate) those responsible for a former co-worker’s murder. The mission takes him to a dangerous climb in the Swiss Alps. George Kennedy, Vonetta McGee, Thayer David also star. 129 min. C/Rtg: R
Widescreen; Soundtrack: English.
