For over a half-century, independent filmmaker Stan Brakhage has explored the universal themes of life, death, love, and the cosmos through more than 300 innovative shorts and features that experiment with the physical qualities of film, from scratching directly onto celluloid to running pasted-on moths' wings through an optical printer. Fifty-six of Brakhage's works--including "Desistfilm" (1954), "Window Water Baby Moving" (1959), "Mothlight" (1963), "Dog Star Man," "The Act of Seeing with One's Own Eyes" (1971), "23rd Psalm Branch: Part I" (1967), "Scenes from Under Childhood Section #1" (1967), "Murder Psalm" (1980), and hand-painted films from the "Persian Series"--are included in this three-disc retrospective. 11 1/2 hrs. total.
