Based on the novels by Andrea Camilleri, this Italian mystery series (called "Inspector Montalbano" in its home country) debuted in 1999. Luca Zingaretti stars as Salvo Montalbano, the head of the police department in the fictional Sicilian town of Vigàta, who tackles one baffling crime after another while confronting his own personal demons. Cesare Bocci, Peppino Mazotta, Angelo Russo also star.

Montalbano must find a killer and a would-be killer when it’s discovered that a man who was shot to death was also poisoned hours earlier, in "A Nest of Vipers." Then, a badly beaten woman drives herself to an apartment building before dying, in "According to Protocol."
