Dracula (1931)

After starring in the title role on Broadway four years earlier, Bela Lugosi became forever identified with the quintessential vampire, Count Dracula, of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel. Dracula's Daughter (1936)

The moody and rarely-seen sequel to the 1931 Bela Lugosi classic (it starts out right where that film left off) stars Gloria Holden in the title role. Desiring to be cured of her vampirism, she goes to a doctor for help but winds up wanting him to become her undead consort. With Otto Kruger, Marguerite Churchill, and Edward Van Sloan as Dr. Van Helsing. 70 min. BW/Rtg: NR

Son Of Dracula (1943)

Lon Chaney, Jr. plays the infamous bloodsucker, travelling through Louisiana as Count Alucard (spell it backwards) and searching for a bride. Atmospheric and often overlooked, this Universal chiller co-stars Louise Allbritton, Evelyn Ankers. 78 min. BW/Rtg: NR

House Of Dracula (1945)

A monster-studded effort from Universal Studios in which an understanding doctor tries to cure the Wolf Man (Lon Chaney, Jr.) of his lycanthropy and Dracula (John Carradine) of his vampirism.
