A monumental, gently mystical portrait of the contemporary central South American cityscape and those who work within it's bowels and environs. After a seven-day walk with his companions, the young Elder arrives in the big city seeking to be reinstated in his work at the mine. The city is overwhelming, and Elder soon falls ill, causing him to suffer frequent choking and shortness of breath. As his condition gets worse, he enlists the help of the elderly Mamá Pancha, who sends him to Max - a homeless witch doctor, hermit, and clown - who could have the ability to bring Elder back to life. Set in the alternately harsh and beautiful terrain of La Paz, Bolivia, El Gran Movimiento is a spellbinding and hypnotic journey into a psychological space that touches upon the supernatural.
