As the Japanese rolled into Shanghai in the wake of Pearl Harbor, privileged British schoolboy Jamie Graham (Christian Bale, in his screen debut) became separated from his evacuating family. His harrowing sojourn through the World War II years, largely spent bartering for survival in an internment camp, is chronicled in Steven Spielberg’s epic adaptation of J.G. Ballard’s semi-autobiographical opus. John Malkovich, Miranda Richardson, Nigel Havers, Joe Pantoliano also star. 152 min. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital Surround, French Dolby Digital Surround; Subtitles: English, Chinese, French, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai; "making of" documentary; theatrical trailer.
