It's 1895, and small-town inventor Joe Belden (Red Skelton) has the crazy idea to build a horseless carriage that runs on gasoline. His new-fangled mode of transport seems to be a hit with everyone--except the local livery owner (William Demarest), who also happens to be the father of the girl (Sally Forrest) of Joe's dreams.
