In this overlooked gem from director John Huston, down-and-out Stockton, Ca., fighter Billy Tully (Stacy Keach) tries to overcome alcoholism and get back into the ring. His hopes for another victory are energized by mentoring up-and-coming pugilist Ernie Munger (Jeff Bridges), who has yet to bear the scars of living the hard life of a fighter on skid row.
