The Rose Tattoo (1955)
In rural Louisiana, a Sicilian émigré (Oscar-winning Anna Magnani) withdraws from the world after losing her adored husband, and pulls their young daughter (Marisa Pavan) into her isolation. It might take the tempting presence of a virile trucker (Burt Lancaster), and harsh truths about her late spouse, to allow her to move on. Memorable rendering of the Tennessee Williams play co-stars Ben Cooper, Jo Van Fleet, Virginia Grey. 116 min. BW/Rtg: NR
It Started In Naples (1960)
An American lawyer (Clark Gable) heads for Italy to clear up matters after a car accident claims the lives of his brother and his common-law spouse. On arrival, he learns that he has a delinquent, chain-smoking 10-year-old nephew (Marietto), and that the boy’s aunt (Sophia Loren), a gorgeous nightclub dancer, won’t give up custody without a fight. Romantic farce with lush Neapolitan locales co-stars Vittorio De Sica. 100 min. C/Rtg: NR
On A Clear Day You Can See Forever (1970)
Based on the Burton Lane/Alan Jay Lerner Broadway musical, this enchanting production stars Barbra Streisand as free-spirited clairvoyant Daisy. While undergoing hypnotherapy to stop smoking, it’s discovered she’s the reincarnation of an 18th-century coquette. But when Daisy’s shrink (Yves Montand) falls for her former persona and vice versa, the stage is set for romantic complications. Larry Blyden, Bob Newhart co-star; songs include "On a Clear Day," "Love with All the Trimmings." 129 min. C/Rtg: G
Falling In Love (1990)
After a memorable chance encounter during the Christmas shopping season in Manhattan, architect Frank Raftis (Robert De Niro) and draftswoman Molly Gilmore (Meryl Streep)--each happily married--meet again by circumstance. A mutual attraction that neither knows how to deal with builds to heartbreaking consequences, in Ulu Grosbard’s tender drama; Harvey Keitel, Jane Kaczmarek, David Clennon, Dianne Wiest co-star. 106 min. C/Rtg: PG-13
Standard and Widescreen; Soundtrack: English.
