Advertised as the first film to cost a million dollars, director/star Erich von Stroheim's lavish, decadent drama "Foolish Wives" follows a phony count and his beautiful "cousins" as they set out seducing the wealthy visitors to Monte Carlo. Mae Busch, Rudolph Christians also star. Silent with music score. Then, the remarkable life of the controversial silent icon and screen villain is documented in "The Man You Loved to Hate," a look at the Austrian-born filmmaker's on- and off-screen follies. Includes clips from such movies as "Foolish Wives," "Greed," and "Queen Kelly" and interviews with von Stroheim's ex-wives, friends and colleagues. 3 2/3 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtrack: English; audio commentary; photo gallery; outtakes; audio clips; more. Silent with music score.
