Fast-talking promoter James Cagney stages a dance marathon, all the while rigging the event in favor of girlfriend Mary Brian, in "Hard to Handle" (1933). Ruth Donnelly, Claire Dodd co-star. Barbara Stanwyck's one of those "Ladies They Talk About" (1933), a tough gun-toting moll sent up the river by ex/D.A. Preston Foster, who plans a breakout and revenge. Lillian Roth, Lyle Talbot co-star. Grifter Warren William came up with a surefire con as a carnival clairvoyant, but he didn't foresee that naive assistant Constance Cummings will fall for him (or vice versa), in "The Mind Reader" (1933). Allen Jenkins, Clarence Muse co-star. Lastly, Joan Blondell is "Miss Pinkerton" (1932), a private nurse and aspiring sleuth, who gets retained by an elderly invalid with a creepy home that becomes plagued by serial slayings. George Brent, Ruth Hall co-star. 4 3/4 hrs. total on four discs. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono.
