The Wet Parade (1932) adapts Upton Sinclair's tale tracing the intersecting paths of two families─from either side of the Mason-Dixon─whose lives have been shattered by alcohol. Walter Huston, Lewis Stone, Robert Young, Myrna Loy, Jimmy Durante star. John Gilbert is a newly hired, good-for-nothing chauffeur who wastes no time in exploiting his fellow servants, and blackmailing his bosses, in "Downstairs" (1932). Paul Lukas, Virginia Bruce co-star. Sold into white slavery in Rangoon by smuggler lover Ricardo Cortez, refugee Kay Francis has her chance for payback after an encounter on a steamer to "Mandalay" (1934). Lyle Talbot, Warner Oland co-star. On the death of his tribal chieftain father, college-educated Sioux Richard Barthelmess returns to the reservation. Finding his people oppressed by corrupt Indian agents, he takes the battle to Washington, in "Massacre" (1934). Ann Dvorak, Sidney Toler co-star. 5 1/2 hrs. total on four discs. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono.
