Shakespeare's "The Tempest" was the inspiration for this this milestone science-fiction adventure set in the 23rd century. A spaceship commander (Leslie Nielsen) and his crew land on a distant planet in an attempt to locate the members of an expedition that traveled there decades earlier. They discover only two survivors--a scientist (Walter Pidgeon) and his beautiful daughter (Anne Francis)--as well as an eons-old alien force of great power that could destroy them all. Warren Stevens, Jack Kelly, and Robby the Robot also star. 98 min. Also included is "The Invisible Boy" (1957), with Robby returning as the newly built playmate for a scientist's brilliant, neglected young son. Trouble erupts when the father's experimental super-computer goes berserk and takes control of the robot. Richard Eyer, Philip Abbott, Diane Brewster star. 187 min. total on two discs. Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 5.1, French Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English, French, Spanish; bonus documentary "Watch the Skies!: Science Fiction, The 1950s and Us" (2005); featurettes; deleted scenes; theatrical trailers; bonus "The Thin Man" episode; more.
