First, in "The Old Barn Dance" (1938), Gene Autry is a radio singer/cowboy who makes his living selling horses. But when he agrees to croon on a radio show sponsored by a tractor company, Gene and Smiley Burnette will have to use some horse sense to get the ranchers to stick with good old-fashioned hoofpower. With Joan Valerie, Sammy McKim; look for a young Roy Rogers. Next, the fur really flies when a dead man's clue puts Gene and Smiley on the trail of pelt smugglers from across the border, in "Blue Montana Skies" (1939). With June Storey, Tully Marshall, Glenn Strange. Then, "Sierra Sue" (1941) is the daughter of a cattleman whose herds are dying from eating poisonous weed. Government agent Gene launches a plan to spray the area from airplanes, but Sue's father doesn't like it, and his actions lead to a potentially dangerous cattle stampede. Burnette, Fay McKenzie, and fellow screen cowpokes Eddie Dean and Kermit Maynard also star. And, "Cowboy Serenade" (1942) finds Gene saddling up to shut down a band of crooked gamblers. With Burnette, McKenzie. 7 2/3 hrs. total on two discs. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono.
