Noted for beginning her career as a mezzo-soprano and then extending her range to include many soprano roles, the St. Louis-born Bumbry is here captured in a Radio-Canada profile from 1972. Performing in the prime of her career, she sings arias from Tchaikovsky's "Jeanne d'Arc," Massenet's "Le Cid," and Verdi's "Un Ballo in Maschera." Other performances include works by Liszt and Schumann. Bumbry's arias are accompanied by the Orchestre de Radio-Canada; for her songs, she teams up with John Newmark at the piano. 39 min.
