Grey Gardens is a unique film portrait of Edith and Edie Bouvier Beale, a mother/daughter duo of former socialites, relatives of Jackie Kennedy Onassis, who lived a reclusive existence in their decaying Hamptons estate. The common bonds that repel and attract the women form the basis for David and Albert Maysles' "fugue of remembrance and recrimination." Then, composed of unused footage from the original 1975 documentary, "The Beales of Grey Gardens" returns to the dilapidated mansion for more odd encounters with the pair. Living hauntingly far from the Camelot ideal, the feisty Kennedy cousins are paid further tribute in this continuation of the Maysles Brothers' classic. 185 min. total on two discs.
