Hancock (2008)
John Hancock (Will Smith) is an alcoholic who happens to possess amazing powers, including super strength and flight. With his heroic deeds causing massive amounts of damage, leading to lawsuits and low public appeal, Hancock agrees to let PR expert Ray (Jason Bateman) give his image a makeover. But an unexpected connection with Ray’s wife (Charlize Theron) could reveal a shocking truth about Hancock’s origin. Offbeat superhero yarn also stars Jae Head, Eddie Marsan. 102 min. C/Rtg: NR
Hellboy (2004)
Guillermo del Toro’s crackling adaptation of Mike Mignola’s acclaimed and offbeat comic book series stars a perfectly cast Ron Perlman as the demon spawned by the Nazis who now fights for the forces of good. As part of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, Hellboy and his fellow agents, including beautiful firestarter Liz Sherman (Selma Blair) and aquatic telepath Abe Sapien (voiced by an uncredited David Hyde Pierce), must stop the evil magician who created him 60 years earlier. With John Hurt, Rupert Evans, Jeffrey Tambor. 122 min. C/Rtg: PG-13
Ghost Rider (2007)
The screen is set aflame in this exciting adaptation of the Marvel Comics character. Years after selling his soul to the devil in order to save his father’s life, stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) has to live up to his end of the deal. Becoming the fiery-skulled Ghost Rider, he must defeat Blackheart (Wes Bentley), the son of Satan, who has a plan to conquer the Earth. With Eva Mendes, Peter Fonda, Donal Logue, and Sam Elliott. 110 min. C/Rtg: PG-13
