For the 1955-56 TV season, Jackie Gleason interrupted the 18-year run of his CBS variety show (1952-70) to turn the popular "Honeymooners" sketches into a half-hour comedy series. Gleason plays pie-in-the-sky Brooklyn bus driver Ralph Kramden, Audrey Meadows is his beleaguered wife Alice, Art Carney is Ralph’s loyal pal/sewer worker Ed Norton, and Joyce Randolph is Ed’s wife Trixie, in one of the Golden Age’s funniest and most beloved sitcoms.
