One of the earliest feature-length films (and the first with an all-Native North American cast), this silent mix of documentary and drama from photographer/director Edward S. Curtis depicts life for the Kwakiutl people along the British Columbia coast. A chief's son undertakes a vision quest and falls in love with a woman who's been pledged to a powerful sorcerer from a neighboring, head-hunting tribe. Special edition also includes the 1973 re-issue version, "In the Land of the War Canoes," and the "making of" documentary "The Image Maker and the Indians" (1979). 66 min.
