Brad Bird’s directorial debut was this wonderful animated fable set in a New England town in 1957 and focusing on a young boy named Hogarth who desperately wants to find a pet his mother would approve of. Instead, he finds a 50-foot-tall robot from outer space that eats metal. While Hogarth and his metallic visitor become close pals, a nasty government agent tries to capture the alien.
