On the final day of World War I, American soldier Timothy Bottoms is wounded in an explosion, losing all four limbs as well as his eyes, ears, and most of his face. Confined to an Army hospital bed and unable to communicate, Bottoms' mind drifts between flashbacks to his homelife and fantasies which include an encounter with Jesus. Scripted from his own novel, director Dalton Trumbo's biting anti-war polemic also stars Jason Robards, Diane Varsi, and Donald Sutherland as Christ. 106 min.
