Mob mouthpiece Barry Brandon (Lee Tracy) was as surprised as anyone when he was tapped for District Attorney, but his former clientele is making the transition anything but easy, in "Criminal Lawyer" (1937). Margot Grahame, Eduardo Ciannelli also star. Radio reporter Eddie Haines (Tracy) always got a kick out of scooping his print journalist ex (Diana Gibson), but he may be her only hope when she’s taken hostage by a heist ring, in "Behind the Headlines" (1937). Donald Meek, Doodles Weaver also star. Stalled screenwriter Michael Winslow (Tracy) starts collaborating with an ex-con (Paul Guilfoyle) for inspiration, but then has to deal with his new partner’s angry criminal confederates, in "Crashing Hollywood" (1938). Lee Patrick, Joan Woodbury, Jack Carson also star. Lastly, Tracy stars as carny promoter "Fixer Dugan" (1938), who’s got some finagling to do when the state comes looking for his late aerialist’s orphaned daughter (Virginia Weidler). Peggy Shannon also stars. 4 1/3 hrs. total on two discs. Standard; Soundtrack: English Dolby Digital mono.
