Little Fugitive: The Collected Films of Morris Engel & Ruth Orkin
(1953)
Filmed in and around such New York landmarks as Macy's, Central Park and Chinatown, the poignant drama "Lovers and Lollipops" (1956) from Morris Engel and Ruth Orkin tracks the growing jealousy a widow's 7-year-old daughter feels towards the attention her mother is paying to her new boyfriend. Lori March, Gerald O'Loughlin, and Cathy Dunn star. Next, "Weddings and Babies" (1960) is Engel's charming love story, filmed in New York's Little Italy and detailing the relationship between a photographer and the model he loves but can't commit to. Her interest in having children also presents a problem for him. Viveca Lindfors and John Myhers star; Engel reportedly shot the film with a camera he invented. Three-disc set also includes "I Need a Ride to California" (1968) and a special edition of "Little Fugitive" (1953) with the short documentaries "Ruth Orkin: Frames of Life" (1995) and "Morris Engel: The Independent" (2008). 4 hrs. total. Standard/Widescreen; Soundtrack: English; audio commentary; photo gallery; theatrical trailer.
