When a mining company clerk (Lon Chaney) colludes with bandits heisting gold shipments, the house dick (Murdock MacQuarrie) stops the scheme, in "By the Sun's Rays" (1914). Legendary vagabond poet François Villon (MacQuarrie) rescues a kidnapped woman (Pauline Bush) from a predatory chevalier (Chaney), in "The Oubliette" (1914). A just-cast Broadway actress (Dorothy Phillips) falls for her playwright (Chaney), but the lecherous stage manager (William Dyer) has other plans, in "Triumph" (1917). After a bank cashier (Chaney) is framed and left for dead by his embezzling bosses, his daughter's beau (Franklin Farnum) comes to the rescue, in "The Scarlet Car" (1917). 140 min. total on two discs. Also includes the surviving five minutes of "The Millionaire Paupers" (1915). Standard; Soundtrack: music score. Silent with music score.
