Lush historical drama stars Katharine Hepburn as Mary Queen of Scots, who defies her British cousin Elizabeth I (Florence Eldridge) by taking the Earl of Bothwell (Fredric March) as her second husband. When the earl leaves Scotland on an emergency, Mary is betrayed by her peers and sent to prison.
