Out Of Africa (1985)
Spectacular, beautiful filming of author Isak Dinesen’s accounts of her life in 1910s Africa won seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Director. Death Becomes Her (1992)
Wild black comedy from director Robert Zemeckis follows two rivals-novelist Helen Sharp (Goldie Hawn) and stage actress Madeline Ashton (Meryl Streep)-who’ll do anything to stave off growing old. Each obtains a magical elixir which not only keeps them young but allows them to survive "accident" after "accident" without dying...assuming their bodies can remain intact! With Bruce Willis as Madeline’s plastic surgeon husband and Isabella Rossellini as the potion’s mysterious dispenser. 104 min. C/Rtg: PG-13
The River Wild (1994)
In her first action role, Meryl Streep plays Gail Hartman, a Boston woman who joins her architect husband and 10-year-old son on a rafting trip in the Western area where she was raised. Their journey takes a dangerous turn when two fishermen they’ve helped turn out to be gun-toting fugitives counting on Gail to lead them to freedom through treacherous waters. Kevin Bacon, David Strathairn, John C. Reilly, Joseph Mazzello co-star. 112 min. C/Rtg: PG-13
One True Thing (1998)
Emotionally charged film version of Anna Quindlen’s novel stars Renée Zellweger as Ellen Gulden, a young New York magazine writer who reluctantly returns to her upstate hometown to help look after her ailing mother Kate (Meryl Streep). Long-standing conflicts between the independent Ellen, seemingly simplistic homemaker Kate, and patriarch George (William Hurt) are brought to the surface. Directed by Carl Franklin ("One False Move"). 128 min. C/Rtg: R
Prime (2005)
Manhattan psychiatrist Lisa Metzger Bloomberg (Meryl Streep) is happy when one of her clients, mid-’30s divorcée Rafi Gardet (Uma Thurman), announces she’s in a relationship. But when she learns that Rafi’s new younger man is Dr. Bloomberg’s son, 23-year-old artist Davis (Bryan Greenberg), the therapist faces professional and personal crises of comical proportions, in this witty romantic romp. Jon Abrahams, Zak Orth co-star. 106 min. C/Rtg: PG-13
Mamma Mia! (2008)
A star-studded cast brings the frothy, joyful stage musical (with tunes by ABBA) to the big screen! On the Greek isle where her single mother (Meryl Streep) runs a hotel, 20-year-old Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) secretly invites the three men (Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård, Colin Firth) she’s learned might be her father to her upcoming wedding, instigating considerable chaos, song, and dance. Songs include "Dancing Queen," "The Winner Takes It All," "Waterloo," and others. Christine Baranski, Julie Walters co-star. 109 min. C/Rtg: PG-13
It's Complicated (2009)
A decade of divorce behind them, successful Santa Barbara bakeshop owner Jane Adler (Meryl Streep) and her married ex-husband, Jake (Alec Baldwin), unexpectedly reconnect at their son’s graduation, leading to a torrid affair. Now, Jane will have to decide if she wants to be Jake’s "other woman" or if she has a future with the charming architect (Steve Martin) she’s hired to redesign her kitchen. John Krasinski, Lake Bell, Mary Kay Place, Rita Wilson co-star in writer/director Nancy Meyers’ delightful romantic comedy. 121 min. C/Rtg: R
Mamma Mia!: Here We Go Again (2018)
Set five years after the 2008 smash, this equally effervescent sequel finds a pregnant Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) about to re-open late mom Donna’s (Meryl Streep) Greek island hotel. As tune-filled flashbacks show a young Donna (Lily James) living on the island as an expectant mother, the present offers Sophie the unexpected chance to meet the grandmother (Cher) she’s never known. "Fernando," "Knowing Me, Knowing You," "Mamma Mia" are among the ABBA songs. With Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård, Colin Firth. 114 min. C/Rtg: PG-13
