By 1970, hard-drinking, irritable photojournalist W. Eugene Smith (Johnny Depp) was far past his heyday of memorably capturing WWII-era moments for Life Magazine. Entreated to come to the Japanese city of Minamata--where the residents suffered increased rates of disease and birth defects due to a manufacturer's discharges of heavy metals into the environment--he'd face a daunting task in bringing a mass tragedy to light. Fact-based effort co-stars Minami, Bill Nighy, Hiroyuki Sanada, Jun Kunimura. 115 min. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English.
