My Man Godfrey / Nothing Sacred (Screwball Comedy Classics Double Feature)
(1936)
My Man Godfrey: A ritzy family makes a lowly tramp (William Powell) their butler and soon find themselves learning a few things about life from their new servant. Powell earned a nomination for Best Actor. Nothing Sacred: A hilarious comedy of errors taking aim at everything, from the public's morbid interest in disaster, to the newspaper business. Lombard is Hazel Flagg, who through a blundered diagnosis by a small town doctor, is given two weeks to live. Her 'plight' is discovered by a NY newspaper whose city editor decides that Hazel will make a great human interest story. She is given an all-expense paid 'last fling' in the big town, with cynical news hawk Frederick March showing her the bright lights and the fun really begins.
