In 1964, veteran stage actress and TV host Noele Gordon (Helena Bonham Carter) took the role of hotel proprietor Meg Richardson on the British soap opera "Crossroads"--and over 18 years, her efforts on the low-end but undeniably popular series pushed her into national iconography.
