Luv (1967)
The hit Broadway play becomes a funny flick starring Jack Lemmon as Harry Berlin, a would-be suicide halted by wealthy, eccentric old friend Milt Manville (Peter Falk). When Harry agrees to repay him by romancing Milt’s neurotic wife (Elaine May) so his savior can get cozy with a sexy gym teacher, wild romantic complications ensue. With Nina Wayne, Eddie Mayehoff; look quickly for a young Harrison Ford as a hippie motorist. 95 min. C/Rtg: NR
The Cheap Detective (1978)
Neil Simon penned this hilarious homage to Bogey-like detective flicks. Peter Falk plays a wise-cracking gumshoe on a mysterious case who encounters a line-up of zanies that resemble characters out of 1940s movies. Ann-Margret, Eileen Brennan, James Coco, John Houseman, Madeline Kahn, and Dom DeLuise head the all-star supporting cast. 92 min. C/Rtg: PG
Big Trouble (1986)
Unable to cover the nut on his triplets' college tuition, insurance salesman Leonard Hoffman (Alan Arkin) was desperate--desperate enough to listen when femme fatale client Blanche Rickey (Beverly D'Angelo) offered a kickback if he helped knock off her dotty and depressed old grifter spouse Steve (Peter Falk). Screwy homage to "Double Indemnity" co-stars Charles Durning, Robert Stack, Paul Dooley, Valerie Curtin; directed by John Cassavetes. 93 min. C/Rtg: R

Underseen caper comedy, remade from Claude Lelouch's "La Bonne Annee," co-stars Charles Durning, Tom Courtenay; John G. Avildsen directs. 85 min. C/Rtg PG
