SYNOPSIS:
Writer-director Joseph L. Mankiewicz (All About Eve, The Barefoot Contessa, Cleopatra) brings Graham Green’s best-selling novel to the big screen in this highly acclaimed adaptation of The Quiet American. Michael Redgrave (The Lady Vanishes, The Browning Version, The Innocents) stars as Thomas Fowler, a jaded English journalist based in Saigon and Giorgia Moll (Contempt, Marina, Requiem for a Secret Agent) is his Vietnamese mistress, Phuong. When an idealistic young American aid worker portrayed by Audie Murphy (To Hell and Back, Ride a Crooked Trail, Destry) falls for Phuong, all bets are off as Fowler’s jealousy sets in motion a series of terrible events.
Filmed on location in Vietnam by Robert Krasker (The Third Man, Brief Encounter, Romeo and Juliet) and highlighted by a moody score from Mario Nascimbene (The French Dispatch, Matchstick Men, Violent Summer), The Quiet American features supporting performances by Claude Dauphin (Barbarella, April in Paris, Casque d’Or), Bruce Cabot (The Last of the Mohicans, King Kong, Big Jake), Fred Sadoff (The Poseidon Adventure, Papillon, Marco) and Richard Loo (The Man with the Golden Gun, The Steel Helmet)."
