Grieving father Sam (Billy Crudup) finds a new way to cope with his son's violent death after he comes upon some songs his musically gifted child had produced. His open-mic performance of that music connects him to Quentin (Anton Yelchin), another young musician who convinces Sam they should form a band to play the music together...without knowing of its origins, or the impact it will have on everyone who hears it.
