Woman Of Straw (1964)
Aging, infirm tycoon Charles Richmond (Ralph Richardson) would rather leave his fortune to charity than have his ne’er-do-well nephew Tony (Sean Connery) see a dime of it. Tony’s response is to hire the old man a gorgeous caregiver. Maria Marcello (Gina Lollobrigida), who’ll make her way into the will...with an "accident" to follow. Not all, however, is what it seems in Basil Dearden’s stylish suspenser; Alexander Knox, Johnny Sekka also star. 122 min. C/Rtg: NR
The Molly Maguires (1970)
The personal and professional hardships of Pennsylvania mineworkers in the late 19th century are explored in director Martin Ritt’s filming of the novel by Arthur H. Lewis. Sean Connery stars as the leader of the Molly Maguires, a secret society of Irish immigrant coal miners dedicated to battling exploitation. When a Pinkerton detective (Richard Harris) is hired to infiltrate the group, it leads to a violent confrontation. Samantha Eggar, Frank Finlay also star. 124 min. C/Rtg: PG
The Wind And The Lion (1975)
In the early 20th century, a Moroccan desert chieftain (Sean Connery), wary of the West’s encroachments onto his country and culture, kidnapped an American widow (Candice Bergen) and her children and held them for ransom. His audacity raised the ire of President Theodore Roosevelt (Brian Keith), who was poised to escalate the incident into warfare. John Milius’ flavorful historical adventure co-stars John Huston, Geoffrey Lewis, Steve Kanaly. 119 min. C/Rtg: PG
The Man Who Would Be King (1975)
Based on a short story by Rudyard Kipling, this rousing adventure from John Huston stars Sean Connery and Michael Caine as shrewd British sergeants Dravot and Carnehan, who find their military service at an end in 1800s India. Travelling to nearby Kafiristan, the pair concocts a scheme to con the gold out from under a remote village where the locals believe Dravot to be the re-incarnation of a god. Christopher Plummer co-stars as Kipling. 129 min. C/Rtg: PG
