Danny O'Neill (Fred Astaire), and Hank Taylor (Burgess Meredith) are trumpeters, with "O'Neill's Perennials", a college band. At a performance, Ellen Miller (Paulette Goddard) catches the notice of both Danny and Hank. She serves them a collection notice from her boss, a debt collector, but the fast talking O'Neill and Taylor soon have her working for them as their manager. Artie Shaw (who plays himself in the film) is tired of losing gigs to the Perennials and comes to woo Ellen away to be his manager. Ellen talks Shaw into letting wannabee musician J. Lester Chisholm (Charles Butterworth) back a concert if he is allowed to play his mandolin. Danny becomes jealous of Ellen's attention to Chisholm and nearly blows the deal, but is able to get things back on track, as well as getting Shaw to agree to put Danny's song in the show. Danny arranges his number for the show. Will Shaw like the composition? Will Danny become a success? Watch this classic Astaire performance to find out. It's a real vintage 1940's comedy/musical worth watching! (84 minutes - 1940 - Black & White - 4:3)
