Shrek (2001)
The fairy tale world mined by Disney films for decades gets turned on its ear in this hit computer-animated romp from Dreamworks. In order to rid his swampland home of the exiled fantasy characters overrunning it, a green-skinned, anti-social ogre named Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) makes a deal with nasty Lord Farquaad (John Lithgow) to rescue a princess (Cameron Diaz) held captive in a dragon-guarded castle. Joining Shrek on his comical quest is a wisecracking donkey named Donkey (Eddie Murphy). 93 min. C/Rtg: PG
Shrek 2 (2004)
When Princess Fiona's (Cameron Diaz) royal parents learn she's married Shrek (Mike Myers), they hire swashbuckling feline Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) to do away with him. Can the oversized ogre, and his faithful sidekick Donkey (Eddie Murphy), thwart the evil plot before his one true love winds up with the preening Prince Charming (Rupert Everett)? Enormously successful and fun-filled follow-up also features the voices of John Cleese, Julie Andrews, Jennifer Saunders, and Larry King. 92 min. C/Rtg: PG
Shrek The Third (2007)
Faced with the terrifying possibility of becoming king of Far Far Away in the wake of his father-in-law's death, Shrek (Mike Myers) recruits pals Donkey (Eddie Murphy) and Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas) for a daring quest to find young Artie (Justin Timberlake), the throne's rightful heir. Meanwhile, Fiona (Cameron Diaz) must defend the kingdom against an army of fairy tale bad guys led by the jilted Prince Charming (Rupert Everett). Also includes the voices of John Cleese, Julie Andrews, Ian McShane, Eric Idle. 92 min. C/Rtg: PG
Shrek Forever After (2010)
The fourth (and final?) Shrek adventure finds the lovable ogre suffering from the blues of being a domesticated dad. Wanting to return to his monstrous ways, he is tricked into making a deal with Rumpelstiltskin that erases his very existence. Now, Shrek must restore his previous life before Stiltskin destroys his friends, his family, and Far Far Away itself. With the voices of Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas, Julie Andrews. 93 min. C/Rtg: PG
